Steve W. Plew, 65, of Columbia City,passed away at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born June 9, 1948, in Huntington, he was the son of William R. Plew and Phyllis V. (Shultz) Plew.
He graduated from Huntington County Community High School with the class of 1967 and from Nashville Auto Diesel College.
On Dec. 27, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathy L. Shearer. After being a diesel mechanic at Transport Motor Express and Fleet Service, Steve decided to be a truck driver and drove for SuperValu Trucking from 1986 to 2008 and for Denny Burnworth Showcase until he retired in 2010.
Steve loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed cooking, grilling and golfing.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 46 years, Kathy Plew; son, Doug (Rose) Plew of Columbia City; daughter, Deanna (Ricky) Raines of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Steven (Ashlee) Plew, Michelle (Tim) Linsky, Annabelle and Nicholas Raines; great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Hailee Linsky and Jazlynn Plew; and his six cats.
He was preceded in death by his father when he was 12. At the age of 14 he lost his mother; brother, Kenton Plew; and sister, Tina Plew in a house fire.
A memorial gathering will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. with his memorial beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr, Columbia City.
Memorial gifts may be given in Steve’s memory to Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice.
