Stolen truck from Ohio turns up in Col. City

January 29, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — A stolen vehicle from Ohio turned up in Whitley County Tuesday.

Police across Northeast Indiana and Ohio were on the lookout for a stolen pickup truck from Hicksville, Ohio, and after a tip, police found the vehicle on Countryside Drive in Columbia City.

Columbia City’s Police Department was tipped off that the stolen truck may be in the trailer park on Countryside Drive. When officers arrived and spotted a truck matching the stolen vehicle’s description, the suspect fled.

“They found the person believed to be involved in the auto theft leaving a trailer, then he got into another car,” CCPD Chief Tim Longenbaugh said.

“When they attempted to pull him over, he failed to stop.”
Longenbaugh said the pursuit went on for five miles north of town, but police backed off at County Road 500 North for safety reasons.
