COLUMBIA CITY — A $400 per year purchase is going a long way for several department heads in Columbia City.
This year, the city decided to go with a new weather service, WeatherSentry by Schneider Electric, and Communications Director Terry Wherry said the service has been very beneficial.
“The $400 extra is nothing for the information we’re getting from this service,” Wherry said.
The communications, electric and parks department are splitting the cost of the weather service, which Wherry said provides more than weather radar.
Wherry said the company employs 45 meteorologists, and the extra information is helpful when the electric department is at work, or when Morsches Park is jam-packed with games.
Especially during baseball/softball season, it is crucial for officials to know if, or when, a storm might hit.
