Storms delay start of softball tournaments

May 23, 2011

The beginning of the week didn’t come with the busy start local softball teams were hoping for Monday.
Severe storms passed through the area delaying the start of IHSAA sectional tournaments.
The opening round had both Columbia City and Churubusco playing games at 5 p.m.
Those games will be picked up today.
Columbia City will open its own class 3A sectional against West Noble at Morsches Park.
The winner will move on to play Tippecanoe Valley in the semifinal round 5 p.m. Thursday.
Whitko is the first of two games to follow Wednesday in the same sectional. The Lady Wildcats had their postseason debut against Lakeland postponed by one day.
Game time start is 5 p.m. with NorthWood and Wawasee to follow in the second game.
The sectional championship is still schedule for 6 p.m. Friday.
A three-day schedule for the class 2A Garrett sectional is pushed back one day.
’Busco is set to open the tournament against Eastside 5 p.m. today.
Churubusco is in the first of two games. If the Lady Eagles win, they will face the winner of game two between Central Noble and Prairie Heights.
Those two teams will meet in the 5 p.m. semifinal round Wednesday.
Fremont and four-time defending champion Garrett will square off in the second semifinal game.
The class 2A sectional championship is set to take place 7 p.m. Thursday.
