STUDENTS EXCEL: Coesse delivers progress report

March 1, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Meeting the potential of every student.

That is the goal of Coesse Elementary School. Coesse Principal Laura McDermott gave a presentation at the last meeting of the Whitley County Consolidated School board on progress toward that goal.

One way the school wishes to meet the potential of every student is through high expectations academically. Academic goals include having 87 percent of students in kindergarten to second grade will meet or exceed their grade reading level and having 90 percent of Coesse students in third to fifth grade meet or exceed the language arts benchmark.

Currently, the grades at Coesse are ahead of the state averages across the board and are meeting these benchmarks.

In the classroom students have also been challenged in various ways.
