LaWontta â€śSueâ€ť Hively Weeks, 70, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. Sue was a resident of Claypool where she resided with her husband, Larry Weeks, who survives.
She was born on April 12, 1942, in Wolf Lake, a daughter of Thomas A. and Georgia M. (Kelham) Hively.
She spent her formative years growing up on their dairy farm and enjoying her horse, Buttons.
In addition to her parents, she lived on the farm with her brothers, Bill and Tom and sisters, Mary and Kay. She was a graduate of Wolf Lake High School and later went on to serve in the U.S. Army.
Sue will be remembered as a hard worker having been employed through the years at Gates & Gates in Columbia City, the Noble County Courthouse, Fort Wayne Juvenile Detention Center, Indiana Work Release and the Department of Corrections at Chain-O-Lakes.
In her retirement, Sue enjoyed quilting, pursuing knowledge of world events and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Larry; two daughters, Bonnie (Mark) Neuling of San Mateo, Calif. and Candy (Jeff) Colbert of Claypool; a stepdaughter, Amy (Jamie) Clausen of Rome City; nine grandchildren, who will miss her dearly; two sisters, Kay (Hans) Manges of Bluffton and Mary (Terry) Schlotterback of Albion; two sisters-in-law, Sasha Hively of Kimmel and Judy Hively of Cincinnati, Ohio and her stepmother, E. Jean Hively of Fort Wayne.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and a granddaughter, Shannon. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with the family receiving friends after 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The burial will take place at a later date at Wolf Lake Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Paralyzed Veterans of America. Condolences may be sent to www.smithandsonsfuneralhome.com.
