SUMMER SAFETY: Keeping a close eye on children

June 19, 2014

WHITLEY COUNTY — A Churubusco family is counting its blessings after an apparent attempted abduction during the Turtle Days festival Saturday.

At approximately 11 a.m., a man attempted to lure two young girls into the woods near the Churubusco Park to “look for zombies,” according to police.
The girls, ages six and eight, got away from the man, who escaped into the woods.

Churubusco Police, Wh-itley County Sheriff deputies and conservation officers with a K-9 unit converged on the wooded area in an attempt to find the man, but were unsuccessful.

Churubusco Town Marshal Mike Engle said police are continuing to follow leads, but no arrests have been made in the case.

Police say the suspect is a white male with light brown hair and a beard, and is estimated to be approximately 35 years old. The suspect was wearing black shoes, black shorts and a black shirt with white letters.
