TAX DEDUCTION DEADLINE: Date looms for mobile home owners

February 24, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Mobile home assessment notices have been sent out for 2012, according to Whitley County Auditor Jen McGuire. “The assessments were done and turned in by Jan. 15. Everyone should have received their assessment by now,” said McGuire.

The deadline for submitting applications for property tax deductions is March 31, 2012.

Once reviewing the form to ensure the information is correct – owner, make, model, lot number and assessed value – it can be submitted to the auditor’s office.

“Anyone who has either bought a new mobile home or has taken ownership only has until the end of March to get their exemption for this year,” McGuire said.

The deduction applies to a mobile home or manufactured home that is not assessed as real properly. Rental property, commercial property and farm property is not eligible for the deduction.
