CHURUBUSCO â The Young and Spencer families hope all will join them on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 16, as they host their annual memorial picnic benefit, celebrating the lives of Megan Young and Andy Spencer.
Megan was the daughter of Chris and Tanya Young. Andrew was a son of Cathy and Mike Spencer, all of Churubusco.
Andy was a member of the Churubusco High School Class of 2010, and Megan was a member of the CHS Class of 2011.
Both were killed in an automobile accident July 16, 2009, not far from both of their homes in rural Churubusco.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event.
The event will be held at the Youngâs home located âon the curvesâ in Collins at 5485 State Rd 205, Columbia City.
Group prayer and a balloon release will start at 4 p.m.
The event will include food, music, swimming, volleyball, precious fellowship and many cherished memories.
Free will donations from the picnic are applied to the scholarship funds established in memory of Megan and Andy.
Through the continued generosity of family, friends and community, scholarships have been awarded each of the last three years to a graduating Churubusco High School male and female student.
Recipients of the Megan Christine Young Memorial Scholarship include Alexis Bankson (2010), Alexandra Walker (2011) and Haleigh Gross (2012).
Recipients of the Andrew C Spencer Memorial Scholarship include Jordan Hamilton (2010), Dustin Arvola (2011) and Christopher Uecker (2012).
Those unable to attend but wishing to make a donation may send a check to: Whitley Co. Community Foundation/Megan Young and Andrew Spencer Memorial Scholarships, 400 North Whitley Street, Columbia City, IN 46725.
The families encourage you to check out more about Megan and Andy, and the lives they continue to touch, at www.andyandmegan.shutterfly.com.
Much more than a simple fundraising event, Megan and Andyâs memorial picnic benefit is a community gathering of love, friendship and fellowship.
Between 300 to 400 people have attended the event each of the last two years.
It is the hope of the families that with your participation, the memorial picnic may be a highly-anticipated event each and every year.
All are invited to take a chair if they have one and bring a side dish or just bring themselves, their family, friends and join the families and friends.
