Theda E. â€śTedâ€ť Hollenbaugh, 90, of rural Columbia City, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Timbercrest Health Care Center where he had been a resident for the past three years.
He was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Jefferson Township, a son of the late Chester and Essie (Gillam) Hollenbaugh. His formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1939.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Army 65th Infantry Division, Company K, in France, Germany and Austria. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On May 3, 1946, he was honorably discharged.
On Oct. 25, 1941, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Goble. They have always resided in Jefferson Township.
He began his work career at Weatherhead, Columbia City, as a machinist. After returning from the war, he returned to Weatherhead which later became Dana Weatherhead. He retired as the electrician of the local plant in 1980, with more than 40 years of service. In addition to his factory work, he operated his farm.
His many memberships included, Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church and the church Menâ€™s Brotherhood, National Watch and Clock Collectors Association, Indiana and Whitley County Archeological Society, past president of Splendid Splinters Woodcarvers and a member of the National Woodcarvers Association.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 70 years, Betty; a granddaughter, Sarah (Gaib) Wall of Roanoke and a sister, Betty Zoe (James) Williams.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Hollenbaugh and a brother, Elwood Hollenbaugh
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, 880 E. 1100 North, Roanoke. The burial will be in Pleasant Chapel Cemetery, Huntington County. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church.
