THEFT: Former township treasurer in court

COLUMBIA CITY – Larwill resident and former treasurer of the Union Township Fire Department Nichole Potts was in court Monday to face charges of theft, stemming from allegations that she took an estimated $28,000 from the department.

According to Fire Chief Chad Radke, Potts took over the duties of treasurer in June of 2011, when the then treasurer moved out of township.

Part of her duties were to give a monthly expense report, which Radke said were only bank totals with no beginning balances or itemized statements.

When Potts began to not attend meetings, Radke immediately started investigating the situation.
