TODAY'S THE DAY: General election polling begins

November 6, 2012

WHITLEY COUNTY – Polling stations have opened across Whitley County and most of Indiana as Election Day begins following months of candidate debates and barrages of campaign advertisements.

Polling sites opened to voters at 6 a.m. EST Tuesday in 80 of Indiana's 92 counties. Voting sites open an hour later in 12 counties in northwestern and southwestern Indiana that are on Central Standard Time. All of Indiana's polling sites will close at 6 p.m. local time.

Indiana voters will choose a president, U.S. senator, nine members of Congress, 25 state senators and 100 House members, along with the state attorney general and superintendent of public instruction. They'll also decide whether to retain more than 60 state and local judges.

In Whitley County, voters will also determine three County Council-at-Large and school board seats.

Indiana's deadline for early voting was noon Monday.

Voting updates in Whitley County will be posted throughout Election Day.
