SOUTH WHITLEY — Achievement runs in the family for both Holly Frantz and Stephanie Wheeler, seniors at Whitko High School.

Frantz, the daughter of Mark and Julie Frantz, was named WHS’s valedictorian. She said her parents were honored with the second place spot in their graduating classes.

“They were salutatorians, so I broke the streak,” Frantz said. “I decided it was something I wanted to go for early on. It wasn’t really until a couple of months ago that I realized I was going to come in first.”

Wheeler, the daughter of Michael and Amber Wheeler, was named WHS’s salutatorian.

“My mom was the valedictorian so she’s had fun rubbing it in that I came in second,” Wheeler said. “But they are proud of me just the same. It’s still a big accomplishment.”

The pair of academic leaders have numerous school activities in common, one of which is WHS’s track team. However, there was a friendly competition between them when it came to vying for the number one spot for the Class of 2013.
