Top spellers celebrated at county middle school

COLUMBIA CITY — After many snow delays, Indian Springs Middle School was finally able to hold its annual spelling bee Thursday, Jan. 16 in the Carver Center.

Twenty-seven sixth, seventh and eighth grade students participated, spelling 86 words in 7 rounds. The winner was seventh grader, Cris Robinson, and the runner-up was eighth grader, Eric Burkholder.
Robinson is the son of Mark Ash and Myla Timms. His winning word was “imperil.”

Robinson participated in last year’s school spelling bee coming in third and is a member of the Spell Bowl team. Burkholder is the son of Earl and Beth Brubaker. He missed the word “atrocious.”

Burkholder participated in last year’s school spelling bee and is also a member of the Spell Bowl team. Robinson will represent Indian Springs at this year’s Whitley County Spelling Bee which will be held Monday, at South Whitley Elementary School beginning at 5 p.m.
