TRAIL TROUBLE: Bank erodes, causing safety hazard along Blue River

COLUMBIA CITY — City officials are working to repair a safety hazard on the Blue River Trail that developed recently.Weather conditions and erosion of Blue River’s banks caused several trees to fall into the river, stripping dirt from the edge of the trail and creating a potential for safety issues. The damage is between the Trailhead on South Whitley Street and the Whitley County YMCA on Van Buren Street. The trail is still passable, but officials have taped off the area to prevent runners and cyclists from getting too close to the edge of the 20-foot drop-off into the river. Columbia City Park Director Mark Green said he is working to get quotes to repair Mother Nature’s damage, with the hopes of restabilizing the river bank.To read the rest of this story, see the April 1 issue of The Post and Mail.
