HUNTINGTON — The Columbia City wrestling team traveled south to Huntington North to take part in the 10 team Weston Close Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Huntington North High School Thursday. With scoring done on an individual basis, senior Justin Trigg led the Eagles to an eighth-place finish by placing third in the 140 pound weight class.
The Eagles wrestling without several of their usual starters due to injuries or illness. City competed in pool competition with the wrestlers squaring off against the wrestler from the opposite pool with the same record to determine placings.
Noblesville took first-place overall with 279 points. Huntington North was second 10 points back, with Logansport third at 229, Fort Wayne Snider fourth at 208, followed by Woodlan, West Noble, Marion and then the Eagles with 139 points.
The Eagles topped Eastbrook and Southern Wells in the team placings.
Trigg, who went 5-1 on the day, scored a pinfall win over Jake Pomast of Logansport at 1:47 of the third-place match. Following Trigg was Bryce Forrester who placed fourth in the 112 pound weight class with a 4-2 record.
Columbia City got sixth-place finishes from Alan Trabert at 125 pounds, Joe McCullough in the 135 pound weight class, Payton Walter at 152 pounds, Addison Krider who placed sixth at 189 pounds, Kyle Weigold at 215 pounds and Joe Fahl in the 285 pound weight class.
The Eagles got seventh-place finishes from Michael Wright in the 103 pound weight class, Trey Hinen at 119 pounds, Eric Shepherd at 145, Landon Hodges at 160 pounds and Zach Perry at 171 pounds.
The Eagles return to competition Wednesday when they travel to Kendallville to meet Northeast Hoosier Conference foe, the East Noble Knights.
