Two Lady Eagles honored by IBCA

COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City High School girls basketball program recently had two of its own recognized by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Associatoin (IBCA). 

Seniors Sidney Bunyan and Sarah Opliger were awarded the IBCA Academic All-State Honorable Mention for their efforts in the classroom and on the basketball court.

IBCA head coaches from high schools across the state nominated seniors who met specific criteria, which included a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, a rank in the upper 25 percent of one’s class, a minimum SAT score of 1,500 or minimum ACT score of 23.

The nominees also had to end the season in good standing with the school and basketball program. 

Sidney Bunyan averaged 5.9 points a game for Columbia City this season and connected with 62 percent of her free throws. She also averaged two assists per game. 

Sarah Opliger averaged 6.5 points for the Lady Eagles and led the team in assists for the season, averaging three per game. She was also a defensive force for Columbia City, leading the team in steals.

The girls will be presented with certificates in May at the CCHS Honors Convocation.
