Unemployment down in region

WHITLEY COUNTY — If ever there was a number Whitley County residents would want to see decline, it is the unemployment percentage.

According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, job growth is rising in Northeast Indiana.

Although Indiana as a whole saw a slight increase in unemployment data — up to 6.9 percent in February — the Northeast Indiana region added 6,945 jobs to the workforce in the past 12 months, 33 percent were added last month alone.

Whitley County’s unemployment ranking fell five spots when compared to other Indiana counties. However, it’s not due to a sharp decline in percentage. Whitley County held steady, only shifting a tenth of a percent. The rank change was due to other counties having significant drops in unemployment.
