A retirement part will be held for Jackie Hake for her many years of service with the Whitley County Council on Aging.
The party will be held at The Woodlands Senior Center, Friday Jan. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. The center is located at 710 Opportunity Dr. in Columbia City.
â€¢ Victim support group
The Whitley County Domestic Violence Task Force will hold a victimâ€™s support group every second Wednesday of the month with free childcare provided.
Participants will need to go through a screening process before attending the group.

â€¢ FAFSA night - 6 p.m.
The Columbia City High School Guidance Department will be hosting a financial aid night Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
A financial aid representative from a local university will be here to answer questions about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
All college bound seniors (and juniors who plan to graduate early) must file a FAFSA by March 10, 2014.

â€¢ Garden symposium
A gardening symposium in Whitley County will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to attend.
The goals for this symposium are to increase the knowledge of sound gardening practices, provide information on current and timely methods and give a glimpse of what is new for the up and coming gardening year.
Cost is $30 per person and includes continental breakfast, lunch and handout materials. Register between now and Feb. 10, 2014 at $30. After Feb. 10 add an additional $10 late registration fee.
