Vaughn Hunnicutt, 90

FORT WAYNE — Vaughn E. Hunnicutt, 90, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at his home.
He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Markle, a son of Rue and Goldie (Fightner) Hunnicutt.
His formative years were spent in Wyoming until first grade when his family moved to Rock Creek Township, Huntington County. He graduated from Rock High School.
On June 24, 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Asiatic Pacific and Philippines. He was honorably discharged April 8, 1946. During the Korean Conflict, he served from Feb. 9, 1951, until his honorable discharge on March 21, 1952.
On Oct. 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Virginia I. “Ginny” Stuver. They always made their home in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Hunnicutt preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2004.
He was employed at Town & Country Food Company 13 years, Dana for eight years and retired from North American Van Lines with 15 years of service.
His memberships include Coventry Baptist Church and Arcola Lions Club, where he was a past president.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Rick (Cindy) Hunnicutt of Fort Wayne and Craig (former wife, Kelly) Hunnicutt of Auburn; five grandchildren, Christina, Rachael, Eric, Nicholas and Alexander; a brother, Max Hunnicutt of Lakeside Calif.; and four sisters, Margaret Redding of Bluffton, Ruby Bell of Syracuse, Lucille Hewes of Fort Wayne and Eva Shillzer of Marco Island Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack, and a sister, Annabelle Elzey.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The entombment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to Coventry Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to www.smithandsonsfuneralhome.com.
