Bond reduced for woman accused of beating teenager Print E-mail

Reaser lured girl by asking for help with horses

By CHRIS MEYERS
Staff writer

A Larwill woman accused of beating a teenage girl with a baseball bat had her bond reduced to $20,000 Wednesday in Whitley Superior Court.
Thirty-five-year-old Karla J. Reaser was originally held on a $40,000 bond after being arrested the last week of June on charges of battery causing bodily injury for her alleged actions.
According to the case report, Reaser called the victim the night of June 25 to say she needed help getting some horses back in a pen.
Sometime after 11 p.m., Reaser picked up the victim to go to where the horses were running but instead pulled over on a county road and asked the victim to get out of the car with her, according to the report.
Once outside, the victim told police she was attacked from behind with a bat or club of some type and was struck in the head, back and sides with the object.
The victim said Reaser then drove away, at which point the victim walked several miles to South Whitley to call for help.
When police and medics arrived, the victim had several injuries to her head and body and was bleeding badly. She was hospitalized for two days before being released.
According to the report, Reaser acknowledged having been with the victim that night, but said she let her out of the car when she wanted to go to someone’s house that Reaser did not want to go to.
She told police that was the last she saw of the victim and did not know what happened to her after that point in time.
Officers found what appeared to be a blood stain on the door of Reaser’s vehicle the night of the incident, but Reaser said it was from having clipped a horse too close a few days earlier. Samples were collected for evidence.
