Columbia City will spend up to $10,000 on its half of the 50/50 sidewalk enhancement partnership this year. The city offers a program whereby residents can volunteer to pay for one-half of the cost of replacing the sidewalks in front of their homes. It can’t be just a section of the sidewalk. The agreement calls for the replacement to be property line-to-property line. This year there were 14 applications for the program, and the city solicited bids for the work. The low bid came in at $20,000, which means the city’s half would be $10,000. Applicants have the opportunity to withdraw from the program once they see what it would cost. Work is anticipated to begin soon once applicants have indicated their willingness to proceed. |
