Police chase driver at high speeds By CHRIS MEYERS
Staff writer

What started out as an attempt to stop a suspected drunk driver Saturday night  in Columbia City turned into a several-mile long pursuit with speeds nearing 100 mph.
Shortly before 10 p.m., a Columbia City reserve officer attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver took off westbound on U.S. 30, leading to the pursuit.
Initial reports indicated the driver was going as fast at 95 mph on U.S. 30 at one point, as county deputies and other city officers joined the chase, which went as far as Wilson Lake Road before the vehicle stopped.
When it was all finished, 28-year-old Thomas E. Seymour of Pierceton was charged with resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, three counts of neglect of a dependent, driving while suspended, operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated per se.
A case report and further information on the origin of the neglect of a dependent charges were not yet available.
It was the second pursuit local police saw during the 4th of July weekend, with the first coming late Thursday night on the east side of Columbia City as an Indiana State Trooper tried to stop a car going northbound in the southbound lanes of state Route 205 near Towerview Drive.
A sheriff’s deputy deployed stop sticks at the intersection of state Route 205 and U.S. 30, which is where the chase ended.
