After having an incomplete board for several weeks, Smith-Green Community Schools has now filled the vacancy left by a resignation earlier this spring. The board of school trustees voted 4-0 at its Monday meeting to appoint Nick Uecker to the vacant position. The board met and interviewed four candidates for the position at a special meeting in June. “We’d like to thank all of you who came forward,” Tanya Young, vice president of the board, said. Fellow board member Cathy Petrie was also pleased with the turnout of people interested in being a board member. “I think everyone represented district 3 very well,” she said. The appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of board president Paul Bowser. Uecker, who was not at the meeting, was not appointed as president, but rather a regular board member, with reorganization and votes on new officers to come later in the year. His term will be up at the end of 2008, which is when Bowser’s was scheduled to finish. |
