Jami Pegan By ANDREW SHULTZ Sports Editor With the end of the softball season came the end of another longtime coaching tenure at Whitko High School. At Whitko Community Schools July 21 meeting, the Lady Wildcats program said goodbye to head coach Marla Burkhart as she retired and said hello to new head coach Jami Pegan. The assistant coach under Burkhart for three years, Pegan was officially named Whitko softball’s head coach for the upcoming 2009 season. Pegan teaches first-grade at South Whitley Elementary and takes over a Lady Wildcat team that also lost seven seniors. Meanwhile, Burkhart walks away after seeing her team finish with a 15-6 record overall and 6-1 mark in the Three Rivers Conference. According to Whitko athletic director Rob Irwin, Burkhart will continue with her teaching career with Whitko Community Schools. Irwin was not available for additional comment. |
