Motorists traveling between Churubusco and Columbia City in the next few weeks may want to find a new route or leave a little early so construction planned on state Route 205 won’t make them late.
The signs are already up — although currently covered — for the pending project for the nine miles of highway that will soon have a new surface.
Toni Mayo of the Indiana Department of Transportation said Wednesday that the stretch of highway will be chip-and-sealed within the next month.
The project will see a new coat of oil and crushed limestone laid down will go from U.S. 30 to U.S. 33, according to Mayo.
She said the project will offer a cheaper way to put a new surface on the highway so as to not require the milling and complete repaving of the highway.
“We’re trying to use our tax dollars as wisely as possible,” Mayo said.
Traffic will be slowed during construction, but the highway will remain open.
