Changes coming to Larwill park Print E-mail
Friday, October 10 2008
By CHRIS MEYERS
Staff writer

Larwill’s town park will be seeing some changes in the coming weeks.
It already saw a big change with the recent removal of a large tree, but there is more to come.
The town will contract with an electrician to have an electric meter installed to get electricity to Sammons Memorial Park and the gazebo.
Plans call for a light to be installed to light the face of the memorial at the park, and to light a flag which will be in place by the end of the year.
The town will need to buy a $25 permit before the work can begin, and the electric installation must be inspected before anything is hooked to it.
The town council has been discussing throughout the year some of the options they could choose to help improve the park.
The removal of the tree was the first step in the plan.
Council members want to have another tree planted at the park, and have considered an elm or tulip tree as possibilities, but have not yet decided.
The stump from the previous tree still remains, and council members approved a $350 fee for having someone remove it.
The town considered renting a stump grinder, but decided it would be best to have a professional tree removal service do the work.
“If something gets broken, or someone gets hurt, we’ll pay a lot more than $350,” council member Rick Hobbs said.
The stump will be ground to below ground level and covered to allow for grass to grow over the area.
In other business of the night, council members discussed the future of a burned house on state Route 5 in the middle of town.
The town recently sent a letter to the property’s owner regarding the unsafe conditions, and the house has since been boarded and surrounded by a fence.
The owners have 30 days to present their plan for the property to the council.
If council members have not heard anything by their November meeting, further action may be taken.
