Christmas Bureau gearing up for giving Print E-mail
Monday, December 01 2008

The Whitley County Christmas Bureau is asking everyone in Whitley County to share and celebrate this wondrous season together. They have a Giving Tree at Wal-Mart and at the Senior Center, with more than 300 names, so far, according to Evelyn Egolf, organizer of the Giving Tree program this year.
The Giving Trees have tags with the names of each family member and their needs and wishes. “What they need and what they would like to have,” says Egolf.
“We have more names this year than we’ve had for a long time,” says Egolf, who is also taking donations for food and to help pay the bills. Monetary donations should be sent to: Whitley County Christmas Bureau, c/o Evelyn Egolf, 641 North Armstrong Drive Apt. 29, Columbia City, IN 46725.
The Bureau plans to order the meat, milk, eggs and other perishables by Tuesday and will need volunteers to help get the 4-H center ready.
     “We start on Monday, Dec. 8,” says Egolf, “People can start around 1 to 5 p.m.; on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.”
Other businesses are getting involved with the Giving Tree program. The Happy Valley Skate Center is having a Skate-on-a-can from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and the Christmas Bureau will be getting coats from the Demoney-Grimes Funeral Homes program, Coats for Kids.
Anyone with questions should call Egolf at 244-7880, who says “May God bless each and every one of you. Thank you.”
