By RUTH STANLEY Managing Editor A woman who stopped to get her mail was hit when she failed to see an oncoming car Thursday afternoon. Sara L. Bauer, 73, told police she was heading north on state Route 9 near county road 150 N when she pulled to the west side of the road to retrieve her mail. She then crossed back across the highway to pull into a driveway, but failed to see a car driven by Debra D. Adkins, 44, of Albion. Adkins’ vehicle collided with Bauer’s car on the rear passenger side. Adkins’ car came to a stop on the highway, while Bauer’s car came to a rest on the east side of the highway. According to the report, Bauer complained of neck pain and Adkins complained of chest pain. Both women were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. A passenger in Bauer’s vehicle, Kenneth Bauer, 79, complained of back pain and a passenger in Adkins’ vehicle, 18-year-old Hope Adkins, complained of chest pain. Both passengers were also wearing safety belts. The Whitley County EMS was at the scene to assist the injured. The crash was investigated by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department. A second crash earlier Thursday afternoon at the intersection of county roads 600 N and 550 E also was the result of one driver not seeing another one. According to the report, Sandra L. Dunn, 70, of Albion, was traveling north on county road 550 E when she came to the intersection of 600 N. She told police that she did not see the car driven by 37-year-old Robinson M. Coville traveling east on 600 N. When she entered the intersection, Dunn’s vehicle was struck by Coville’s. Neither driver complained of any injuries and both were wearing seat belts. The crash was investigated by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department. On Wednesday morning, a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Jocelyn F. Rodman was traveling south on state Route 9 near county road 800 S when she left the east side of the road, came back on the road and went off the west side striking a fence. Rodman reported no injuries and the report cited driver fatigue or falling asleep while driving as a possible contributing cause to the accident. Rodman was wearing a seat belt. The accident was investigated by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.
