Campground burglar denied early release Print E-mail

A Syracuse man sentenced to 10 years of jail time has been denied a request for early release.
Twenty-five-year-old Charles E. Norris was sentenced in March 2007 for nine Class B felony burglary charges and eight Class B misdemeanor charges for a burglary spree at Forest Ridge Campground with another man while the campers were vacant.
Norris requested a sentence modification June 29, and said he would stay with his parents in Cromwell and take care of his three young children if released to home detention or probation.
Whitley County Circuit Court Judge James Heuer said today he denied the request because of conduct issues while Norris was on work release.
Norris was charged with dealing a controlled substance while on work release, but the charges were later dismissed.
While in court, Heuer also noted the number of break-ins Norris and his accomplice committed.
“We’re not talking about one B felony. We’re talking about nine victims,” Heuer said.
Norris still owes about $1,300 in restitution and is working on getting his GED, he told Heuer.
Norris’ incarceration has created a hardship for his parents, according to his father, Dave Norris, who testified on his son’s behalf.
He said he and his wife had to sell their home in November and sell their car to pay expenses and help care of Charles Norris’ children since his incarceration.
Another man, 30-year-old Earl E. Suver, was sentenced in August 2007 to 14 years on work release with four suspended for having committed the break-ins with Norris.
