    SSgt. Joel Vance has served his country for 20 years in the Indiana Army National Guard.
    On Friday night, he returned from a tour of 10 months in Iraq, reporting in mid-July of 2008 to Camp Atterbury to prepare for deployment with the 1538 Transportation Company based out of Elkhart.
    An open house to honor his years of service and welcome him home will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Hall, 415 E. Chicago St. in Columbia City. Friends and family are invited to attend.
    Vance is a 1989 graduate of Columbia City Joint High School and is employed at 80/20 in Columbia City when not serving his country.
    A son of John and Sherry Vance of Fort Wayne, he has a son Brice, 15, and has been married to Angie since May 1995.  He has an older brother, Matt of Columbia City and a younger sister, Angie Ricker of Fort Jennings, Ohio.
