Donation can provide much-needed funds to organizations and Christmas cheer to others
By DEANNA POGORELC Staff Writer A local business is pairing with schools to spread Christmas cheer and raise money for local not-for-profit organizations. Orizon Real Estate Inc. has recruited choir members from Columbia City and Whitko high schools and Indian Springs and Whitko middle schools to offer Christmas caroling as an incentive for people to donate money. The Caroling for a Cause program allows community members who donate $20 or more to a not-for-profit through the Whitley County Community Foundation to send a group of students to Christmas carol at the house of the donor’s choice. “People who donate are getting a $20 donation that is tax deductible, and they also get to give the gift of caroling to someone they know,” coordinator Tina Houser said. So far more than 190 students have signed up to help, Houser said. They will carol on Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. This program also gives the students the opportunity to receive community service hours for extracurricular activities or college applications, Houser said. Donations can be made to any cause. Houser said she is looking into finding grants that would match the money raised. For more information and to download a donation form, log on to www.whitleycountyrealestate.com. |
