Police get lead on vehicle used in thefts Print E-mail

Police may have a suspect vehicle in the string of recent outdoor equipment and ATV thefts in the county.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, a red and tan full-size pickup truck with an open trailer was seen about a week ago near county roads 900 South and 350 West pulling into a homeowner’s driveway.
Just recently, that homeowner’s Gator outdoor utility vehicle was stolen from the property.
A make and model of the truck were not known. The trailer was the typical flat metal trailer with loading ramps used to haul lawn mowers and other equipment of similar size, according to the report.
Det. Chuck Vogely said residents should keep an eye out for the vehicle and call the sheriff’s department at 244-6410 if they see the vehicle or any similar suspicious activity.
Nearly a dozen  high-dollar lawn mowers, RTVs, ATVs and Gators have been stolen from homes or businesses in the last several weeks.
A stolen trailer likely used in some of the thefts was recently recovered.
