Man sentenced to two years Print E-mail
Tuesday, February 12 2008

Staff writer

A 28-year-old Warsaw man will serve a two-year sentence on work release after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine, a Class D felony.
Zekiel T. Dotson was ordered to jail Monday and denied a one-week stay. He had asked for the extra time to attend his sister’s wedding.
Judge James Heuer noted that Dotson already had received a stay and would have begun his jail term one month ago had various stays not been granted.
    In other cases Monday morning:
• Ashley D. Goldwood, 19, of Columbia City, had her request for sentence modification taken under advisement by Heuer. She was sentenced to four years in jail with one year to serve for theft and burglary in November and has served approximately one-half her time.
Heuer said he would rule within a week.
Prosecuting attorney Matt Rentschler had no objection to a modification.
• Jacob L. Cagle, 23, of Columbia City, told the court he could pay $400 a month toward restitution of $1,600. He was given a one-year suspended sentenced in August 2007 for check deception. Heuer set a status hearing for April 7.
• Richard D. Ozenbaugh, 44, of North Manchester, will have a hearing March 17 on a charge he violated his suspended sentence by failing to make restitution payments. He was sentenced to three years with time served on January 2006 for theft and still owes $952 restitution.
• Justin S. Morphew, 17, of Columbia City, had Brad Voelz reappointed as his attorney as he faces a charge of violation of home detention. He was sentenced to four years in jail with one year to be served on home detention in November 2007. In December it was adjudged he had not followed his schedule, and he was given 60 days in jail. He also is delinquent in making restitution of $845. His case was continued to Feb. 19.
• Sara J. Pattison, 30, of Columbia City, will have a pre-trial conference March 10 on a charge of forgery, a Class C felony.
Two people will enter the deferred prosecution agreement rather than face charges of check deception:
• Randall G. Lewis, 46, of Fort Wayne, and
• Stacey D. Henry, 27, of Pierceton.
