With the deadline for filing for local offices up for election this fall, both the county council and commission slots will be contested in the Republican primary as will at least one position on the Whitko School Board even if that race is non-partisan.
County commissioner Jim Pettigrew, the incumbent Republican for district 3, will face off against fellow Republicans Mark Roach and Don Amber, both of Churubusco.
Running unoposed in the primary will be incumbent Republican commissioner Tom Rethlake, representing distict 1.
The county council race will also be highly-contested in the primary, with six candidates, including the incumbent, having filed for the at-large council seat.
Scott Darley, Bill Overdeer and Thomas Western are in the incumbents who have filed for re-election, and will be joined on the ballot by Jim Banks, Steven Hively and Cliff Crance.
Two other unconested races for the primary are county treasurer and county coroner.
Incumbent Republican treasurer Lisa Richmond and incumbent Republican coroner Scott Smith have filed for re-election.
Members of the Whitko Community Schools Board of School Trustees that have filed for re-election are Roger Boggs, Michael Braddock and Gordon (Jim) Hayes Jr.
Newcomers who have filed for the race are Terry Eberly, Shannon Langmaid and Cynthia Kreger.
Candidates who serve on the Whitko school board can live in either Kosciusko or Whitley counties, but must live in the district in which they are running.
