Micropulse, a Whitley County company that makes medical devices, surgical instruments and orthopedic implants, will nearly double its size with an addition that is nearly complete, president and CEO Brian Emerick said.
The company, at 5865 E. State Road 14, will add 47,000 square feet to its production area of 57,000 square feet.
To help serve the area, a sewer line has been installed to increase capacity.
“We’ve been thinking about it for quite some time,” Emerick said. “With the expansion, we reached the capacity of the filter bed system. With the job creation (from the expansion), the state of Indiana offered some support.”
The company currently employes about 155 people and “is still adding,” Emerick said.
The Micropulse expansion started “quite a while back,” Emerick said, and the sewer project has taken about a year.
He said a housing subdivision in the area is now possible, although it is not happening “anytime soon.”
Emerick said the sewer should be completed within the next two months, “about the same time as the building in May. We’re under a roof, and we have heat.”
Emerick said Whitley County has been “a good community to do business in. Whenever we need help, the community and various county entities have been very helpful.”
