A little bit of rain, snow or cold air hasn’t slowed down the spring season for Churubusco track. The Eagle squads were in action for the second time this season. Wednesday night’s meet marked Churubusco’s first road trip as Heritage played hosted. In a close contest on both sides of the meet, both the boys and girls squads for Churubusco suffered their first losses. The Lady Eagles were led by their short distance runners. Junior Tiffany Lefever led the way with two victories in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter. Lefever also took second-place in the discus throwing 82.65 feet. Nicole Pippenger complimented Lefever well with a winning time of 17.7 in the 110 high hurdles. Pippenger swept the hurdle events also winning the 300-meter hurdles. Lefever and Pippenger teamed up with Brooke Shearer and Dell to give Churubusco its only relay win in the 400-meter. Individually, Shearer’s day consisted of a first-place finish in the long jump at 15.9 feet and a second-place finish in the 100-meter. Freshman Nichole Wormcastle had a good day with second-place finishes in the 400-meter and 800-meter events to go along with her third-place in the high jump. Other field events had Amanda Farner finishing third in the shot put before the Lady Eagles fell by a final team score of 54-75. The boys had a similar finish to their night falling 51-72. Trump also took a second-place finish in the 100-meter and third in the high jump. The Eagles lone race win was in the 400-meter where Mike Hall won the event for the second time in two meets this season. Kyle Monk and James Fhering were both able to put together two second-place finishes. Monk got his in the 300-meter hurdles and high jump while Fhering’s came in the 1600 and 3200-meter. Dylan Geiger was able to pull in a second-place finish in the 110 high hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Both squads will take a long break while Churubusco goes on spring break.
