Have you heard your kids talking about My Space and Facebook, but didn’t feel knowledgeable enough to discuss it with them? Are you worried about cyber bullying and online pornography?
Come to the Eagle Quest Church from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and hear from the experts everything you need to know to protect yourself and your family from Internet predators.
Speakers from the community will address issues including cyber bullying, Internet predators, online pornography, chat rooms, social networking (My Space and Facebook), and software security.
A representative from the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department will be speaking about the Netsmartz Internet safety program, among other topics.
Pat Mossburg of the Salvation Army will also speak. She is an advocate for abuse prevention and was Co-director of S.A.V.E. (Sexual Abuse and Violence Education).
Eric Kelly serves as part of the Community Advisory Board for Allen County Superior Court’s Positive Youth Development Team and will be at the event. He is also the National Advisor for Juvenile Justice/Youth Guidance Youth for Christ USA and the Director of Juvenile Justice at the Fort Wayne YFC.
Steve Beck is the local Computer guru and owner of B.E. Computers in Columbia City and will lend his knowledge of how to be safe online.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
9 a.m. - Welcome and introductions; 9:15 a.m. - Whitley County Sheriff’s Dept.; 10:30 a.m. - Break; 10:45 - Pat Mossburg; 11:45 a.m. to noon - Lunch and Q & A; 12:45 p.m. - Eric Kelly; and 2 p.m. Steve Beck.
