Tom Chapin, the Grammy award winning songwriter and children’s recording artist, will be entertaining first, second and third grade students at Northern Heights Elemetnary School with a school day concert April 25th. The students will be travelling to the First Church of God auditorium in Columbia City for a 9 a.m. concert with other WCCS students. Chapin has gained widespread critical and popular acclaim for his recordings aimed at elementary school children and their families. “I want to write well-crafted songs that parents can listen to with their children; songs with strong, simple themes that will work on two levels,” Chapin says of his work. His awards include three Grammys for Best Spoken Word Album for Children. Local school officials are excited to offer students the chance to see a live performance by an artist such as Chapin. The school day performance is for students and staff only, but there will also be a free community concert at 7 p.m. at the same location as the earlier show. This concert is open to all and tickets can be obtained through the elementary music specialist in each WCCS elementary building or the Peabody Public Library.
