It was wins all around Tuesday night at Whitko High School.
The boys and girls’ track teams hosted Three Rivers Conference oppoent Southwood in what became a Wildcat sweep, with the boys winning 79-51 and the Lady Wildcats victorious 68-53.
The boys’ win was in large part to Wildcats Cory Snep and Tom Yeager. Both recorded four victories in the meet whether it was in running, field or relay events.
Half of Snep’s night came from the field where he swept the long jump (20-feet) and high jump (six-feet). The junior’s other two wins came in the 400-meter dash (52.2) by more than two seconds and as part of the 1600-meter relay team.
Yeager’s wins were divided evenly among relays and hurdles. The senior standout won both the 110-meter high hurdles (16.2) and the 300-meter hurdles (44.1). Yeager also helped the 400-meter (46.1) and 1600-meter (3:38.4).
Chase Stouder was half way to matching Snep and Yeager when he picked up two first-place finishes. The sophomore sprinter won the 200-meter (24.4) and was part of the 1600-meter relay squad. Stouder also placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.0).
Two other Wildcats won in field events. Kenny Martin won the discus with his throw of 119-feet five-inches. Kyle Slater pole vaulted to 10-feet six-inches and a first-place finish.
Scott Skiles, Brian Winget and Max Elder also were a part of wins. Skiles and Elder were in the winning 1600-meter relay foursome as Winget took the 1600-meter individual event.
Other notables for Whitko came from Travis Kurtz who finished second in the 100-meter (11.8) and third in the 200-meter (25.2). Brian Menzie finished second in the 1600-meter (5:05.8) and 3200-meter (11:25). Paul Bouse took second in the discus (105-feet two-inches) and Bryan Slusher was second in the pole vault at nine-feet.
The Lady Wildcats night finished with nine victories.
Whitko swept the relay events on the night. In the 3200-meter relay Veronica Jersey, Aubrey Smith, Karlee Arnold and Christina Hoopingarner posted a first-place time of 11:17.03.
Individually, the Lady Wildcats got victories from everywhere. The long jump went to Caley Tackitt (13-feet 7.2-inches).
In sprints, Ashley Hoopingarner took first in the 100-meter dash (13.71) and 200-meter dash (27.06). Tackitt won the 400-meter (1:08.72).
In distance events, Aubrey Smith won the 1600-meter (5:58.16) and Veronica Jersey placed second in the 3200-meter (12:49).
Karlee Arnold was the winner in the 800-meter (2:51.47).
Ana Bumbaugh posted second-place finishes in the high jump (four-feet two-inches) and 110-meter hurdles (20:63). Abby Gettinger was second in the discus (71.5-feet) and sixth in the shot put (28-feet nine-inches).
Ashley Morgan was second in the shot put for Whitko while Christina Hoopingarner was third in the 3200-meter.
The Whitko boys will be in action Saturday at the Goshen Relays while the Lady Wildcats will take a break and be back next week on Tuesday against Manchester and Northfield.
