County assessor Angela Adams explained to the county council Wednesday morning how she plans to staff her office once the township assessor position is eliminated. She told the council she doesn’t intend to hire any full-time help.

County assessor Angela Adams, faced with a state-mandated change to do away with township assessors effective July 1, presented the county council with an estimate of $39,928 for salaries, mileage and equipment, based on the recommendations of a task force assembled to study the problem.
Adams told the council she preferred not to hire someone full time in her office because the assessments needed to be completed in six months.
“I’m not going to hire a full-time employee for six months of work,” she had told the council previously.
Adams estimated that it would take three people working 29.5 hours per week at $15 an hour for 24 weeks.
She also asked for two computers, two printers and wireless access for the part-time assessors to work in the field.
The council took the requests under advisement.
In other business Wednesday morning, the council voted to give county recorder Rosemary Brown $7,000 to purchase a new server for her office. The other $7,000 needed will come from her budget.
Val Slack of the county extension office received $2,000 for part-time help.
County engineer Keith Hood was told to furnish the council with an estimate for GPS equipment. He told the council his office is trying to perpetuate the section corners.
