Board tables hiring decision Print E-mail

Whitley County Consolidated Schools was poised to make a decision this week about who would take the open position of assistant principal at Columbia City High School, but a decision will likely not come until the board’s next May meeting.
The board of school trustees voted Tuesday night to table the hiring of an assistant principal because the board didn’t feel comfortable making the vote at that time, Laura Huffman, superintendent of WCCS, said today.
A large team of staff and administrators — including the newly-hired principal for CCHS — has been working for the past few months searching for candidates for the position.
“The process was very teamwork oriented,” Huffman said.
Plans are for the board to vote on a new hire at the May 20 meeting if all goes well between now and then.
In other WCCS news, Capt. Brian Anspach of the Columbia City Police Department won the raffle for a painting by Huffman, with the proceeds going toward a scholarship for a CCHS senior.
Each year Huffman raffles a painting to help a graduating student who’s going to study fine arts at college.
“Every little bit helps for kids going to college,” she said.
The recipient of the funds has not yet been chosen, and Huffman said she does not have involvement with that committee.
The scholarship usually brings in about $200 to help college students with supplies.
