Two allegedly drunk drivers hit head-on Print E-mail
Monday, May 12 2008

Three people were injured early Sunday morning near Churubusco when an SUV without any headlights driven by an allegedly intoxicated person crossed the center line and struck another car head-on.
According to the crash report, 46-year-old Albion resident Tracie L. Chilcoat was heading north on U.S. 33 when she crossed the center line and hit a southbound car driven by 48-year-old Kelli J. Lyons of Fort Wayne.
Lyons told police she saw Chilcoat’s SUV cross the center line but she was unable to avoid the collision. Lyons also said the oncoming SUV did not have any lights on at the time.
Portable Breathalyzer tests performed at the scene indicated Chilcoat had a BAC of .19 and Lyons had a BAC of .07, which is below the legal limit in Indiana of .08. Certified test results are still pending.
Chilcoat, Lyons and a passenger in Lyons’ car were all wearing seatbelts and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.
According to dispatch records, the drivers may face charges in the crash, pending the results of official blood tests.

Motorcycle rider downed Saturday in CC
A motorcyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon when she pulled out in front of an oncoming car on Frontage Road.
Initial reports indicated the rider was wearing a helmet and was taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital.
“She was very lucky,” Capt. Brian Anspach of the Columbia City Police Department, said Sunday of the incident.
An official crash report was not yet available.
