By ANDREW SHULTZ Sports Editor There hasn’t been many but Wednesday’s wash out of local high school sporting events was not meant to be. Despite Whitko baseball fighting off the wet conditions, other events canceled on Wednesday will not be rescheduled. With sectional play starting today for girls’ tennis across Indiana, Whitko’s Wednesday night contest at Fort Wayne Wayne will not be made up on the agenda. Full schedules for both the Columbia City and Whitko softball teams have forced both teams to drop a game as well. The Lady Eagles’ match-up with Fort Wayne Wayne scheduled for Wednesday will not be rescheduled. Tonight, Columbia City plays host to Huntington North before making up a rain out game against Carroll in game two. The Eagles close out the regular season with a doubleheader at home Saturday against Mishawaka. Whitko had its Senior Night festivities rained out Wednesday against North Miami. The Lady Wildcats will still play the Lady Warriors, however. Whitko dropped its Saturday game against Huntington North to play North Miami instead. A Friday contest against Manchester will also help close out the Wildcats regular season. Columbia City and Whitko will then prepare to play each other in the first round of the Lakeland sectional Tuesday at Lakeland High School. Whitley County’s third softball team from Churubusco was also scheduled to be in action Wednesday. The Lady Eagles road game at Hamilton was rained out as well. ’Busco will not make up the game with the Lady Marines and will instead close out the regular season tonight at Central Noble. The Eagles come back Monday night against the Lady Cougars for round two in the first round of the Garrett sectional. |
