Walter F. Meyers, Jr., 90, passed away June 18, 2014.
He was born on April 24, 1924, in Columbia City.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nellie Grey Meyers.
He will be missed by his surviving five children, Jeffrey, G. Meyers (Pam), Mary Margaret Meyers-Walker (Eugene); Nellie G. (Nela) Faddis (Tom); Roxanna Meyers (Stanley Mount); Monica Meyers; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many friends.
Walt Meyers earned his civil engineering degree from Purdue University and later obtained his masters degree in public health service at the University of Michigan.
He is a life-long member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He began his professional career in Venezuela for Creole Oil. He worked for a private engineering company in Albuquerque and was a chief engineer of the Navajo Tribe, before joining the Indian Health Service, a branch of the U.S. Public Health Service, where he retired with the rank of captain in 1989.
He was a member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus and gave generously of his time and money to many non-profit organizations.
Many were touched by his generosity and kindness and he was dearly loved by all who knew him.
