WATER MAIN: Board approves Eagle Glen project

June 12, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Board of Works and Public Safety approved a contract for completion of the Eagle Glen Water Main Project Tuesday.

DLZ, an engineering firm based out of South Bend, was contracted to perform the work for a price of $59,400. DLZ will be subcontracting with Walker and Associates based out of Columbia City.

“I appreciated its (DLZ)’s willingness to work with a local firm,” Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel said.

This decision had been tabled from the last Board of Works meeting May 28. At that time, board member Walt Crowder said he did not have enough information to make a decision, and with Daniel absent, that left only board member Dan Weigold to possibly vote at that time. Crowder was still concerned that DLZ was the only firm that submitted a bid.

“I know we need the project. I am not against that,” he said. “I don’t have anything to compare (the price) to.”
