Wayne moves past ‘Busco

CHURUBUSCO — With sectionals looming, Churubusco’s girls tennis team fell to Fort Wayne Wayne Monday.

The Lady Eagles dropped the match to the Lady Generals, 5-0 on the varsity side and took two of five junior varsity match-ups.

In the three singles matches, Cheyenne Connor, Audrey Gierscher and Kayleen Mitchell were each swept in straight sets.

At the varsity doubles, the Lady Eagle pair of Madi Cook and Camille Cseri fell in straight sets, as did Churubusco’s No. 2 doubles squad of Nikki Esslinger and Maggie Kitt.

Junior varsity winners for Churubusco included Liz Brooks-Smyser, Kaley Scott and Brittney Shambaugh.

Falling in junior varsity matches for the Lady Eagles were Aaliyah Hennsinger and Kayla Mascho in singles play and the doubles pair of Morgan Gressley and Olivia Knight.
