COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated Schools implemented a project last year known as the New Teacher Program.
Michelle Urban, vice principal at Indian Springs Middle School, updated the WCCS school board on the program’s progress Monday.
Urban said the goal of the program is to explore best practices, provide them with educational research and create an environment for elaboration and discussion.
The program meets once a month. Following the meeting, Urban emails an account along with questions and material for the mentors to work on with their mentees.
“It’s about adapting to different learning styles and increasing the rigor of your expectations and procedures,” said Urban.
Urban said that a framework is being set up for the teachers to be successful, with a communication circle that starts with her and runs through the administrators, mentors and mentees.
