October 5, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Consolidated School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees studied a draft complied of the school corporation Vision, Mission and Core Values at Monday’s meeting in an attempt to have it reviewed by the next regular meeting Oct. 15.
The draft was a result of a brainstorming session held in September by the school board and school administrators. During this session, groups were asked to give specific words or phrases for the school’s vision, mission and core values, and the board later worked on common themes mentioned in the meeting.
“On the vision, we have inspiring excellence,” said WCCS Superintendent Dr. Patricia O’Connor. “The mission is WCCS is a safe, dynamic educational environment empowering students to become educated, productive and responsible citizens.”
For what the school corporation values, the list includes a safe and secure school environment, highest student achievement, professionalism, compassion, dedication, flexibility and accountability.
“Also, continuous growth through implementation of practices, strong relationships and partnerships, dynamic rigorous curriculum and diversity of opportunities and a financial plan aligned to the core values that supports the goals of the corporation,” said O’Connor.
According to O’Connor, many of the goals include developing a professional plan, adequate resources and funding for continuous instructional development, continue successful implementation of ETA, establishment of a facility plan for the high school and providing financial resources.
