COLUMBIA CITY â One of the countyâs online tools may become a source of frustration for the GIS Department.
The geographic information system (GIS), is an online, searchable database that provides a host of information from the names of property owners to the taxes paid on such properties.

âIâm not really sure what to do,â Weigold said.
House Bill 1219 is slated to go into effect June 2014. The law requires a local unit of government that operates a public website data base containing the names and addresses of property owners to establish a procedure to permit a law enforcement officer or victim of domestic violence to restrict disclosure of the personâs home address.
âI understand the intent of the law,â Weigold said. âNobody know how to do this. Itâs not just as easy as taking their name off the site.â
In the verbiage of the law, the word âmayâ is used when instructing government entities to remove names.
